01.17.06

I received the newest issue of remark. today, and it's another
fine issue handcrafted by Kat.  Featured poets include
Jonathan Hayes, Nescher Pyscher, Nathan Graziano,
Miles J. Bell and ron lucas.  I've said it before, and I'll say
it again: support the small press and purchase a subscription!

I also received word that my poem in the burning
house of angels
will appear in the next issue of trespass
magazine
.  See the last sentence above!

01.11.06

I received my contributor's copy of Nouveaux
Delits
, a French-language literary journal out of France.
I have 4 poems featured in this issue (#15) all of
which were translated by Eric Dejaeger.  More poems
translated by Eric are soon to appear in other French-
language journals, Liqueur 44 and Microbe.

01.06.06

I received word from Linda Wandt, the new editor of
Spent Meat, that she will use the poem the second coming
in the next issue, the first after an extended hiatus.

01.03.06

I received my contributor's and subscriber's copies of
the new Nerve Cowboy (issue #20).  My poems the
geometry of a relationship on the rocks
and the
ultimate irony of the recently sobered
appear.  Other
poets in this issue include Kathleen Paul-Flanagan,
Karl Koweski, Gerald Locklin, Christopher Cunningham,
Michael Kriesel and A.D. Winans.  I've said it before,
and I'll say it again:  Nerve Cowboy is THE best
literary journal out there.

12.21.05

Slow month.
I received the final issue of Chiron Review (#81), an
all gay and lesbian literature issue.  CR will be dearly missed
in the small press.  I'm proud to have been included in a
number of previous issues.  Other than this, not much else
going on.  Including writing.

12.06.05

I received a rejection from Poultry Broadside the other day.
Poultry Broadside is a pamphlet-sized, tri-fold journal
released once a month.  Check it out, if you're interested.

I received my two contributor's copies of trespass magazine,
issue #2, where my two poems Midnight Trains and the emptiness
of a moonless night
appear.  The former is also a free poem on
the trespass magazine website, as a teaser for the issue.  trespass is
a beautiful, new journal that will only get better with time.
Other poets in this issue include Glenn W. Cooper, Luis Cuauhtemoc
Berriozabal, Owen Roberts, john sweet and J.J. Campbell.

11.30.05

It's been a long time since my last update.  Some recent news:
I received my contributor's copy of Bathtub Gin #17, in which
my poem the business trip appears.  Bathtub Gin is a great literary
journal that is very difficult to crack, so I am happy about
being included.
I also received the most recent issue of remark. (#39).  Kat
did another great job with this issue.  Great design and great poems.

10.31.05

I received my subscriber's copy of Naked Knuckle, a fabulous
small-format journal out of Modesto, California.  This issue (#5)
features poetry by Karl Kowski, Christopher Cunningham among
others.  If you're interested in subscribing or submitting, email
me and I'll give you the address.

10.25.05

I received word that two of my poems, Midnight Trains and
the emptiness of a moonless night, have been chosen to
appear in the autumn issue of trespass (issue #2).  trespass is a new
literary journal with much promise, so I've very excited about this.
I'll update when it is released.  Also, consider sending some of
your own stuff to them.

10.22.05

I received my copy of The Small Press Review today
and on page 4 is my review of Glenn W. Cooper's book
First Touch, published by Bottle of Smoke Press.
The Small Press Review is a great resource, and Glenn's
book is a marvelous addition to the pantheon of literature.
Both come highly recommended.

10.20.05

I received a copy of The Stinging Fly (Issue 2/Volume 2)
that I ordered earlier in the week.  This is a fabulous journal
out of Dublin, Ireland; and this issue's featured poet is
a good friend, Brian McGettrick.  I recommend picking up
a copy of this glossy, perfect bound journal.  It's gorgeous.

10.12.05

I received my subscriber's copy of the penultimate issue
of Chiron Review (issue #80).  The next issue will be the
final one.  I will miss CR.  They are one of the best small
press journals out there.

I also received word that Eric Dejaeger has translated
three more of my poems into French.  This makes 21 total, all
of which will be published in French-language journals in
Belgium and France.  I'll update as they come available.

10.04.05

I received my contributor's copy of a new anthology
of sex and drugs, titled Chemical Lust, published by
Monophonic Press (and the editors of Cherry Bleeds).
My two poems anheuser heaven and right here appear.
Other writers include Karl Koweski, Tony DuShane,
Jeffrey S. Taylor and Will Carpenter.

10.01.05

I received a copy of Christopher Cunningham's most recent
book, Thru the Heart of This Animal Life, A Measure of
Impossible Humor
, published by Liquid Paper Press as the winning
chapbook from Nerve Cowboy's 2004 chapbook contest.
It is an amazing chapbook filled with the best poetry you'll
ever wish to read. I URGE you to pick up a copy post haste.

09.21.05

I received my contributor's copy of Main Channel
Voices
today.  My poem the relationship archaeologist
appears in this issue.  It's a great-looking journal with
heaps of wonderful poems.

Also, I heard word that my buds Henry Denander and
Adrian Manning will being having joint chapbook released
by Art Bureau later this year.  The title is Bring Down
the Sun
.  Look for it.  And, congrats to both of them.

09.02.05

I received an acceptance from Main Channel Voices
magazine for my poem the relationship archaeologist
to appear in the Fall 2005 issue, scheduled to
appear in the middle of this month.

08.30.05

I received my contributor's copy of The Flatlands #2
the other day. I have two poems featured in this issue,
camping in october and we will always have this.
Other poets featured include William Taylor, Jr., Owen
Roberts, John Sweet and Christopher Robin.

I also received a rejection from The Great American
Poetry Show
. I sent a stack of poems for Volume 2,
but no dice. Ah well.

08.24.05

It's been awhile since I've had anything to report on here.
I received my issue of remark. #36. I have three poems
in this issue: 11.03.04 or the day after, eating mangoes
and of snowmen and hot chocolate. also included with
this issue is a postcard/broadside of a Michael Estabrook poem.
Other poets in this issue include Chris Cefalu, Luis Cuauhtemoc
Berriozabal, Brian McGettrick and James Quinton. The
cost is only $6, and well worth it, I think.

08.06.05

I received my contributor's copy to The Cellar Roots'
latest journal, an anthology of poems about art, titled
Ekphrasis.  I have three poems in this issue.  This is third
in a series of three special theme issues.  I had poems featured
in each of the other two, Metropolyesterday and Incediary.
Included with the journal were two bookmarks made from
two of the poems featured in this issue.  A very nice touch.

08.03.05

Heard word from The Flatlands that they would
like to keep two of the poems I submitted for issue
#2, due out near the end of this month.  I'll update when
the issue is released.  The two poems they want to keep
are camping in october and we will always have this.

08.01.05

The summer doldrums are in full force.  I haven't
written anything of value in what seems like forever,
and I've not had much in the way of responses from
editors (though that very well might be because I haven't
sent much in the way of submissions lately).
Though, today I did receive remark. #35. Kat did another
great job putting this issue together. It features some great
poetry by Luis Cuauhtemoc Berriozabal, Charles Nevsimal
and Nescher Pyscher; as well as a fabulous review of
Glenn W. Cooper's chapbook, First Touch, written
by yours truly. Pick up a copy, if you aren't already a
subscriber.

07.23.05

I just got word that the sunnyoutside website is
finally functional (though in a reduced state, still) and
you can now purchase my broadside the president,
a criminal and a chimpanzee walk into a bar...

I think you will be blown away by the design of
this broadside, with full illustration by the artist
David Woodson. Please check the website out and
support sunnyoutside by purchasing some pieces,
mine included.

07.14.05

I received the signature pages for my newest chapbook,
25 Best-Loved Poems of the Future, from Bill of
Bottle of Smoke Press.  He included 10 author copies
for me to pass around, too.  The announcement for
this book has been made, and he's taking orders.  Books
should ship soon.  $5 plus shipping gets you some of
the future's best poetry.  Plus, as a bonus, the first 50
copies are signed by yours truly and include a special
checklist broadside of my publications.

07.13.05

I got an acceptance today for two poems to appear
in the next Nerve Cowboy (#20) due out later
this year.  This will make three issues in a row for me.

07.12.05

Got word from Bill Roberts of Bottle of Smoke Press
that my new chapbook, 25 Best-Loved Poems of the Future,
will be ready July 15th, my 32nd birthday.  This book will
be a continuation of the quality you've come to expect
from Bottle of Smoke, with a new style for the cover.
Look for it!

Also, don't forget to check out my blog.  I'll update it
daily, or nearly daily, and you can post comments if
you'd like.  Come and see what it's like to be a loser
working stiff, an inadequate husband and a
struggling, self-conscious poet.

07.07.05

Just wanted to say that I started a new blog, called
this poet's life, where I will put my musings.  I noticed
recently where I started using this NEWS section
for a little more than just news.  So, I've started the blog
to hold those extemporaneous thoughts.  This NEWS
section will still be continuously updated, but only
with actual news about my poetry.
I hope you'll visit the blog periodically, and even submit
comments so we can maybe have a dialogue, versus the
monologue I've been holding the past two years.

06.29.05

Got two rejections recently.  Got a no thank you
from Mike at High Horse.  He did like two of
the poems, but passed on them nonetheless.
Also got a thanks but no thanks from No Tell Motel
for their Bedside Guide to No Tell Motel anthology.

Friday is another two days away, but feels
an eternity further than that.  However, this weekend
is one of those blessed three-day weekends we
working folk so desperately crave.  Sleep is all I
have on my agenda, and it is much needed.

06.24.05

Ah, sweet sweet Friday!
Got word today that my poem coincidence? will be
featured in the anthology We Are What We Watch:
Poets Respond to Movies, TV and Media
to be published
by Syracuse Press in early 2006.  Apparently over 3,000
poems were submitted and only 106 made the cut, so
it's a big honor.  This will be the fourth anthology I'll
be a part of.  I'll keep you posted as to when it's released.

06.23.05

It's storming outside.  So what, you say?  Well shit, man,
I live in Salt Lake City.  A desert.  We don't see many
thunderstorms.  Lightning is a delicacy upon which we
rarely dine.  Anyway.  I got my contributor's and subscriber's
copies of Nerve Cowboy #19 in the mail today.  Another
in a long series of great issues.  Other poets include:
Gerald Locklin, Glenn W. Cooper, Michael Estabrook,
Kathleen Paul-Flanagan, Amanda Oaks, Christopher
Cunningham and Karl Koweski.  My buddy Luis Cuauhtemoc
Berriozabal even has an illustration in this issue.  You
have a subscription to Nerve, right?  Well, you should.
If you would like my extra copy, let me know.  I would be
willing to send it to you, because I'm pretty damn certain
that after you read it, you'd want to subscribe.  Let me know.

It's still raining.  Membranes of water are cascading off
the eaves.  People are running all over, like they've
never seen the stuff before.  Hilarious.  I'm sure there'll
be at least 15 traffic accidents in Salt Lake City within the
half hour.  It's amazing how a little rain can disrupt the
lives of so many people.  Not unlike how snow cripples
towns in Georgia and Louisiana when it arrives every
100 hundred winters or so.

06.22.05

I have four poems available for viewing, all previously
unpublished, at the new online journal Blowback Magazine.
I hope you enjoy!

06.20.05

I've come down with a head cold.  I think it's stress
related, what with my work being the morass of
unattainable deadlines and incompetence that it is.

This week, I received my subscriber copy of Chiron Review
#79.  My buddy Glenn W. Cooper has a few poems in
this issue.  Other poets include Michael Estabrook,
Stephen Shea, J.J. Campbell and Michael Kriesel.
I'll miss this journal when it goes, as will most of us,
I'm sure.  Another great issue #79 is.

I also received my contributor copies of the bookmark
and java jacket from Poetry Jumps Off the Shelf.
Apparently there have been 14 bookmarks and 52
java jackets, with my poems, made and disseminated
about the Madison, Wisconsin area, already.  Very cool.

I got a copy of the newest Bottle of Smoke chapbook,
Matt Smith's The Dullard.  Matt is by far the oddest,
strangest, wildest and most peculiar poet there is.  And
this is exactly why I love his stuff.  He is, after all,
THE Matt Smith, internationally renowned and
regionally reviled.  Bottle of Smoke put out another
great product with this release.  Highly recommended.

Lastly, I received a much anticipated rejection from
Burnside Review.  I expected as much.  It's so nice when
your expectations are met, isn't it?  Oh well.
We've no choice but to struggle on.

06.08.05

A bit of news:
Bottle of Smoke Press will be publishing my fourth
chapbook, 25 Best-Loved Poems of the Future, to be
released early next month.  I'll update here when it is out.

I have a few submissions out, but haven't
heard anything back.  Of course, I'll post the
responses when I get them.

That is all.

06.01.05

I just got back from a work-related trip to
Philadelphia, a mighty fine town indeed, where
I was also lucky enough to get to spend some
time with Bill Roberts, of Bottle of Smoke Press,
and his beautiful family.  We designed and pressed
a couple of covers and a broadside for some
future Hemispherical Press projects.

Waiting in my mailbox, when I got home, was
my contributor's copy of Anthills 4, from
Centennial Press.  This gorgeous, poster-sized
broadside is something to behold.  Visit the website
for more information and to order your own
copy.  Other contributors include:  Matt Smith,
Nathan Graziano, Glenn W. Cooper, A.D. Winans,
Kathleen Paul-Flanagan, William Taylor, Jr.,
Shane Jones and Michael Estabrook.

Also waiting in my mailbox was the new issue
of remark. from Kathleen Paul-Flanagan.
Contributors of issue 33 include Michael Estabrook,
John Sweet, Peter Magliocco and Christopher Major.
I also have a review featured in this issue.

05.16.05

A couple bits of news:

Firstly, the new sunnoutside.com website is up and
running.  They will be releasing a kick-ass broadside of
one of my poems very soon.  Other poets they will be
publishing soon include Nathan Graziano, William Taylor Jr.,
John Sweet, Maxine Perella and Michael Kriesel.

Secondly, I received the second chapbook from Bottle of Smoke
Press
's Chapbook of the Month Club.  As you'll remember
my mini-chapbook Liquid Jesus was the first installment
of that series.  The second installment is a mini-chapbook
by Sweden's Henry Denander.  This is a great little book,
and a wonderful little project Bill at BOSPress came up with.

Lastly, don't forget about the new book by Adrian Manning
that Hemispherical Press has released.  It's a good-looking
book full of killer poetry.  $5.00, is all.

05.11.05

I found out today that my manuscript for the Nerve Cowboy
Chapbook Contest, Poems Scratched Into the Inside of
a Pinebox Coffin
, didn't get into the top three places.
Bummer.  However, my good buddy Christopher Cunningham
won first place.  Congratulations, Christopher; a more
deserving poet there is not.  And, another poetry friend,
Michael Kriesel, got third place.  Great job, Michael.
Maybe next year is my year.

I'm also happy to announce the newest chapbook from
Hemispherical Press has been released:  As Unavoidable
As History
by Adrian Manning.  $5.00 plus shipping for
one of 50 signed copies.

05.07.05

I just received word that my review of Glenn W. Cooper's
first chapbook, First Touch, published by Bottle of Smoke Press,
has been accepted by The Small Press Review and will appear
in that publication soon.  If you haven't picked up this book
by Glenn, then you are missing out.  It's fantastic.

I also received, today, a rejection from Gordon Purkis of
Mastodon Dentist for some poems I sent him a few
months back.  Oh well.

Lastly, the latest Hemispherical Press chapbook is now
available:  Adrian Manning's As Unavoidable As History.
It's selling for $5.00 and is a great little book.  Watch for
future titles including a split-broadside featuring
Christopher Kornacki and C. Allen Rearick, a chapbook
by Owen Roberts and a mini-chap by David Michael McNamara.

04.27.05

I received my contributor's copy of Bottle #3, a magazine of
broadsides published by Bottle of Smoke Press.  20 broadsides
by poets such as Owen Roberts, Glenn W. Cooper, Gerald Locklin,
Henry Denander, David Barker, Karl Koweski, yours truly and
the late, great Charles Bukowski.  Regular copies are going for
$25 and lettered copies are running $150.  All broadsides are
individually letterpressed on Bill Roberts' old letterpress.

Also, I received word that two of my poems, on the street
and waiting for the beginning of the end will appear
in an anthology titled, In Our Own Words: A Generation
Defining Itself Volume 6
.  I am very excited about this.  This
will be the fourth or fifth anthology which will include my
poetry, and it will be available for purchase from Amazon
and Barnes and Noble online.

04.22.05

I heard word back from Shoshauna Shy of
Woodrow Hall Editions on my submission for
their new Poetry Jumps Off The Shelf project.
Two poems, breakup haiku and desperately
seeking someone
, were selected.  The first
poem will be used as a bookmark given out with
purchases at a local, independent bookstore in
Madison, WI.  The second poem will be printed
on little java jackets distributed by a local
coffee house.  I had a poem printed and laminated,
then attached to bicycles in Madison, WI for
PJOTS's last project.  I'm excited about this one, too.

04.20.05

Copies of Bottle of Smoke's Bottle magazine are
now available.  There are two price structures:
$25 for one of the regular copies and $150 for
one of 26 lettered copies.  There are 20 individual
broadsides in this issue, with one of them being
by Charles Bukowski.  You will want a copy
of this magazine, trust me.  Visit BOSPress and
order one as soon as you can.

04.11.05

I received my contributor's and subscriber's copies
of Naked Knuckle #4.  This another great issue chock full
of poetry.  This is the second issue in the smaller format,
and I think it is looking quite good.  My poem why hath
thou forsaken me?
appears on page 2.  If you want the
contact information, email me and I'll hook you up.

I also received my broadsides for the third issue of
Bottle of Smoke's seminal magazine BOTTLE.
My poem 4 a.m. and drunk again is the
poem used for this broadside.  The broadside
is printed on dark brown paper with
a pretty script font.  Check out the website
and order your copy today.  One of the broadsides
will be a poem by Charles Bukowski.  This
will be a collector's item and will definitely
sell out soon.  Don't say I didn't warn you.
I have a bunch of copies, which will only be
collecting dust with the other copies of
broadsides I have.  If you want one, let me know
and we can work out some deal.

04.08.05

I received my contributor's copy of Issue Seven of
Words Dance.  This is the first ever print issue of this
fine magazine.  My poem the bachelor party is featured.
Other poets include Glenn W. Cooper, William Taylor, Jr.,
Michael Estabrook, Nathan Graziano, Chris Kornacki,
and Kathleen Paul-Flanagan.  The theme of this issue is DESIRE
and Amanda did a great job choosing the words and art for it.

04.04.05

I just received a copy of my good friend Glenn Cooper's
first chapbook, FIRST TOUCH, from Bottle of Smoke Press.
I've got to tell you, this is an amazing book.  Glenn is
the best poet in Australia, and thankfully he lives there
because he'd be the best living in America if he were here.
You NEED to have this book.  Go to BOSPress and
pick up a copy today.

04.03.05

Nothing terribly new here, just sorting through some old crap
(an early spring cleaning, I suppose) and found some publications
of mine that some might be interested in.  I have:

*  Numerous copies of various broadsides from Bottle of Smoke Press.
*  One copy of the Feel Free Press Pocket Broadside Series #15.
*  7 copies of Bottle of Smoke's Chapbook of the Quarter broadside.
*  A few remaining copies of the mini-book that came with my
chapbook i was a third grade genius..., titled BOOGER.
*  Some copies of the very tiny Poems-for-All broadside 11.22.63.
*  And the best of all, 30 copies of my hard to get chapbook from
12 Gauge Press, The Magnificent Seven.

If you are interested in any of these things, let me know and I'll
quote you a very generous price.  Most of the broadsides are
unavailable anywhere else, and they've just been collecting dust.  Hell,
you pay me for postage and I'll mail 'em out to you.  The
chapbook is $6 postage paid.

Other than all this, there's nothing more to report.  I've become
addicted to lying on the sofa, doing nothing.  It's intoxicating.

03.26.05

My contributor's and subscriber's copies of Chiron Review #78
arrived in the mail today.  I have three poems in this issue,
make believe, portrait and on the street.
Unfortunately, but understandably, Michael Hathaway
has decided to stop publishing Chiron Review after 24
years.  I wish Michael well and hope he's as successful
in this next stage of his life.  Thanks for putting out
CR for so many years, and for supporting all of us writers.

03.14.05

I received my contributor's copy of Over The Transom
#14, where my poem hung like a horsefly is
featured.  Also, on the inside back cover, there is
an advertisement for Hemispherical Press.

03.07.05

I know the updates have been pretty few and far
between recently.  It's winter, what can I say?  I've
begun writing again, which is nice, and have been
spending my time reading, mostly.  I'm currently reading
this great book called Generation Kill by Evan Wright
about the Iraq War and a particular platoon of marines who
are fighting over there.  It's gritty and raw and absolutely
amazing.  You should read this book if you agree with
the war on terror, and you absolutely HAVE to read
this book if you oppose it.  It's unbelievable.

I also just recently finished Parasites Like Us by
Adam Johnson and Everything is Illuminated by
Jonathan Safran Foer, both fantastic debut novels by
very talented young writers.  You should check out
all three books, if you're interested.  You won't
be disappointed.

03.05.05

I received the copies of the lettered copies of my
newest broadside The President, a criminal and a chimpanzee
walk into a bar...
, published by sunnyoutside, for me
to sign.  They look absolutely amazing.  They have
been beautifully illustrated by David Woodson and
will be available for $2 (numbered to 200) or $3
(lettered and signed by both me and David).  I am
very excited about this broadside.  I'll update when
the broadside is available.

02.25.05

Damn, it's been 20 days since the last update.  Winter
is moving slowly towards spring and nothing is
advancing in the poetry arena.  Just received a rejection
from Cup of Poems for a submission I mailed to them
back in June of last year.  Shit, and I thought I
was moving slowly.  Ah hell.  It's good to know I
don't just suck now, but sucked eight months ago, too.
I'm starting to suspect it goes back further than that.

02.05.05

I received a rejection from Quercus Review out
of Modesto, California.  I didn't expect to get into
this academic publication, but it was worth a try.

01.30.05

I received my contributor's copy of Butcher Shop Press's
The Butcher's Block  6.  My poem welcome to the jungle
is featured.  Other poets featured include A.D. Winans,
Todd Moore, Bradley Hamlin Mason and Lyn Lifshin.
The price is $10 for this thick anthology.  You can
email the editor, David Greenspan, at:
butchershoppress [at] hotmail.com
to find out the address, if you're interested.

01.22.05

I received my contributor's and subscriber's copies of
Mouseion from the UK.  My poem conversation we
almost had
appears.  Other poets include AD Winans,
Karl Koweski and Nathan Graziano, among others.
Unfortunately, Mouseion will be retired soon, so
pick up a copy while you can.

I also received my copies of the broadside Feel Free Press
did for their Pocket Broadside Series.  The broadside consists
of my two poems waiting for the beginning of the end and
the last word.  I also received my copies of the two Feel
Free Press
anthologies: Poems Written Whilst Staring Death
In The Face
and Destination Anywhere.  I have one poem
in each anthology.  Check out Feel Free Press for
these and other great publications.

01.18.05

I haven't updated this news section in quite awhile, I see.
But, that's only because I've had nothing to report until
now.  It's been a slow month.
Anyway, I heard from Amanda Oaks of Words Dance
that she would like to use my poem the bachelor party
for the "Desire" issue of Words Dance.  It's a print issue
and will most likely be quite good.  Check out the webpage
for more information.

01.02.05

Happy New Year everyone!  Here's to hoping 2005 has
all the good of the previous years and none of the bad.

Laura Hird has published her best of 2004 issue, with
various people's picks for their favorites of 2004.  Laura was
kind enough to list me as one of her 4 favorite Showcase poets
for 2004.  Thank you, Laura.  I'm honored.

Bottle of Smoke Press is currently selling a limited number (50)
of subscriptions to its Chapbook of the Quarter Club
where a small, letterpressed chapbook will be published
and released each quarter.  The first chapbook, titled
Liquid Jesus will be by none other than yours truly.
It is ready to ship and looks amazing.
Visit Bottle of Smoke and purchase a subscription
before they are all gone.

12.26.04

Day after Xmas.  Recovering from the holiday hangover,
preparing for another in a week.  The new issue of
My Favorite Bullet was released today.  I have
three poems featured in this issue.  Other poets
include Michael Estabrook, Chris Kornacki, shane allison,
C. Allen Rearick, Kathleen Paul-Flanagan and many
others.  Check it out.

12.22.04

Got my contributor's and subscriber's copies of Nerve Cowboy
Number 18 today.  My poem for 7 months appears.  Other
poets in this issue include Matt Smith, christopher cunningham,
Karl Koweski, Robert L. Penick, J.J. Campbell, Michael Estabrook,
Jonathan Hayes and Gerald Locklin among others.  Nerve Cowboy
continues to be the premier small-press journal.

Oh, and I have been chosen to be the first in Bottle of Smoke's
Quarterly Chapbook Series.  My mini-chapbook of 5 poems,
Liquid Jesus, will ship in January.  It's beautifully designed
by Bill Roberts and printed on his letterpress.  Contact
Bill if you are interested in purchasing a subscription
to the series.  One chapbook every 4 months, handprinted.
All the chapbooks he creates will only be available as part
of the series.  No extras will be sold.  You WILL want
to subscribe to this.  Don't say I didn't warn you.

12.19.04

Got my subscriber's copy of the new Chiron Review
the other day.  Good issue, as usual.  Some great poems by
Ryan Rowe, shane allison, Fred Voss and others, plus
the feature poet is Robert L. Penick.  A great interview with
the poet and some wonderful poems are included.

I've been reading quite a bit by Hosho McCreesh lately.  I
am completely convinced this guy is a madman genius besides
being the most under-rated/over-looked poet in the small press.
He has only a few books out there, but if you can get
your hands on one, you will be pleased.

Wishing nothing but joy for you as the holidays approach!

12.12.04

The premier issue of Mastodon Dentist has just been
released.  I have one poem featured in this first issue.
Other poets include Ace Boggess and Luis Cuauhtemoc
Berriozabal.  MD looks like it'll be a treat to read in
the future.  Check it out.

12.08.04

I received my submission to FUCK! back, with a note from
Lee Thorn that read, "Thanks for thinking of FUCK!".  Well,
like most men, it's usually at the front of my mind.  Anyway, I
keep really bad records of which poems I send out and I don't
know if he kept anything or not.  I am assuming no, and that
this was a rejection.  But, I'll continue to keep FUCK! in mind.

12.03.04

Still haven't found a new job.  Apparently, having a bad
economy puts a damper on job creation.  Go figure.  Still
looking, though.  Maybe soon.

Got a rejection from Platonic 3way Press for their
new magazine Fuck These Bastards.  Second time.  Oh well.

Got my contributor's copy of Incendiary from Cellar Roots.
If you recall, I had a poem in Hell Hath No Fury, the first in the series.
I have two poems in this new one, the second book of three.  Included
was a nifty little bookmark with one of my poems featured.
Allegedly, I have two poems still being considered for the last
in the series.  I'll update in the spring of next year
when it comes out.

I also found out today that I have a poem featured in one
of the calendars released by Scars.  I am in the second
calendar under the month of April.  Pretty sweet.
Other poets included in the two calendars are John Sweet
and Owen Roberts.  Pick one up for the holidays.

11.26.04

I see it's been some 2-plus weeks since my last update.  Well,
not much is going on.  I received an acceptance, today, for two
poem to appear in a future issue of Chiron Review.  My work is
getting less and less tolerable, so I'll be looking for a new job
soon.  This doesn't make me happy.  Winter has descended upon
my little burg, which makes me even less happy.  Nightfall comes
around 5pm, and dawn doesn't arrive until around 7:30am.
Far too little sunlight for joy and happiness to develop.

Still, we wake up in the morning with the hope that
today will be different and we will finally be respected and
no longer treated with contempt and hatred.  So far no dice, and
the future looks bleak on that front.

Oh yeah, Happy Thanksgiving...

11.08.04

I just received word that my poem we will always have this:
will be published in the debut issue of Mastodon Dentist.

I will also have a broadside out soon with David Michael
McNamara's new sunnyoutside broadside project.  I will
update when that is released.

11.06.04

So, I've had a few days to let the debacle of Tuesday the 2nd
seep in and my fear has yet to subside.  I'm afraid of what the next
four years will bring.  Suffice it say many more people will die,
the rich in America will get richer and the poor even poorer yet.
But, god is in the White House now, so what do we have to
worry?  We've seen from god's ruling up to now that he
actually cares for us humans and will let nothing horrible
happen to us.  Yeah right!

Anyway, I got my contributor's copy of Liquid Ohio in the
mail today.  It's a very nice-looking magazine, with some great
poetry by Luis Cuauhtemoc Berriozabal, Shane Allison, Dave
Church and others.  Plus a poem by yours truly.  Go online and
purchase a copy right now.

10.30.04

Happy Halloween.  It's really tomorrow, but they are holding
it today where I live because tomorrow is Sunday and
doing anything on the Sabbath is wrong and evil and sinful.
Anyway, the wife is handing out candy as I sit here waiting
for it to end.  I am also recovering from a little head cold
I was sure was actually the resurrected Spanish Influenza of 1918
but turned out to be nothing more than a slight head cold.

I received a rejection today from Naked Knuckle.  Greg
Edwards is a great guy.  Even with a rejection I feel good.  I
know he read the poems, and he urged me to submit more.
I'm going to do just that today.
No more news to report.  It's been a slow couple of weeks.

10.18.04

My buddy Luis Cuauhtemoc Berriozabal has copies
of his great book, Raw Materials, for sale.  They are available
for $10.00.  This is a great book and I fully recommend it.
If you are interested in purchasing one of these books, email
me and I'll forward your email to Luis, so that he may
contact you directly.

I also have 2 copies of the small broadside that was included
with the lettered copies of my first chapbook from Bottle
of Smoke Press
.  The broadside is covered in felt, hand-stitched
and contains one poem, Booger.  The copies are $3.00 each.
If you're interested email me.

10.16.04

I just got word from Jessica Burton of Mouseion that
my poem a conversation we almost had has been
accepted for Issue #3 of Mouseion.  And, on top of that,
I will be getting paid $8.00 for it.  I can now move my
retirement up 15 minutes!  Honestly, it's pretty cool that
there's a place out there willing to pay its writers.

10.15.04

I received my contributor's copy of Migrants & Stowaways
from the Knoxville Writer's Guild.  This 247 page book features
the work of 85 writers and artists.  It is a mixture of poetry and
fiction, with the overall theme being "Journeys".  My poem
i was a third grade genius appears in the collection.
The book is available at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
Hint:  Barnes & Noble is cheaper.

10.12.04

I received my subscriber's copy of Mouseion #2 today.
It's another great issue filled with great poetry.  Featured poets
include Glenn W. Cooper, Owen Roberts, Matt Smith, John Sweet,
C. Allen Rearick, Shane Allison and Bradley Mason Hamlin.

I received an acceptance letter from Cellar Roots for 2 poems
to appear in their next anthology Incendiary: Hell Hath No Fury.
The anthology will be available November 8.  I'll update when I
get my copy.  Support Cellar Roots by purchasing a copy of
one of their anthologies.

10.09.04

I received my subscriber's issue of Chiron Review #76,
and Henry Denander is on the cover.  He has a bunch of poems
kicking off the issue plus an interview conducted by Glenn W. Cooper.
Glenn, also, has a full-page spread later in the issue.  Well worth
picking up a copy of this one.

I received my contributor's copy of Metropolyesterday Dreams,
an anthology from Cellar Roots of Eastern Michigan University.
My poem kees van dongen: lady in a black hat, 1908 appears.

I also received my contributor's issue of Naked Knuckle #3.
Other poets included in this amazing issue are John Sweet,
William Taylor, Jr., Karl Koweski and Michael Estabrook.
Naked Knuckle is quickly becoming a favorite.  My poem
stuck between remembering and forgetting kicks off the issue.

10.06.04

A poem co-written by Shane Allison and myself is available
for viewing at London Ghetto Poets.  The poem is called It's a Sin
and it's the third poem down.

10.03.04

I received an email from Jonathan Hayes of Over The Transom
that my poem hung like a horsefly will be appearing
in the next issue of OTT, to be released soon.  I'll notify
when it is out.

09.26.04

I just noticed that the new issue of Words Dance has been
uploaded.  I have two poems featured in this issue.  This issue
deals with the positives and negatives of relationships, with one
poem on each subject from each contributor.  Amanda did
a great job with this issue.  Tasteful and the poems are right on.
Check it out.

09.20.04

I received a rejection from a new magazine titled
FIGHT THESE BASTARDS, but one of the editors
asked that I submit more as another of the editors is familiar
with my work and feels something will probably hit the mark.

09.19.04

I received an acceptance from David Michael McNamara,
previously of sunnyoutside and )ism(, for a poem to be included
in his new project.  I have no idea what the project is, but
I'm real excited about this as McNamara is all about doing
exciting and innovative things.  I'll update when I know more.

I also received a rejection from Open Wide Magazine
for their next print issue.  I'll be sending more.

09.17.04

I updated the poetry page with 21 more poems.  All appeared in
previous issues of The James River Poetry Review.  That's 27
newly uploaded poems in the past two days.
Enjoy!

09.15.04

I received an acceptance from Chiron Review
for my poem on the street to appear in a future issue.
I'll update when it comes out.

I've also updated the poetry section of this
site with 6 poems that have recently been published
in various journals, online and in print.

09.08.04

I found out that I did not win the Salt Lake City Weekly
Annual Literary Contest for poetry.  The City Weekly is our
local "alternative" newsmagazine here in Salt Lake.  As
poetry judge, they chose a Ph.D. candidate at the University
of Utah, and a former poetry editor of Mid-American Review.
Needless to say, I had no chance with an academic judge.
The poem that won was something else.  What it actually was,
I'll leave up to you to decide.  Sour grapes?  Maybe, but
you'll see what I mean when you read the 3 "winning" poems.

09.06.04

A rejection from Anti-Muse was waiting for me in my
email inbox this morning.  I sent them 5 poems.  None good
enough to make it.  Situation normal, over here.

09.02.04

I have 1 poem in the September print issue of My Favorite Bullet,
as well as 2 more in their extra web edition.  This issue is
an amazing collection of literature by some great writers.
Go to the website and check out the great poetry, then
subscribe to the print edition.  (To find the poems that are extra
to the website, click on "The Poets" and look for my name.)

I received, today, an acceptance from Nerve Cowboy for
2 poems, one on one and i'm pretty certain we're even, though,
when it
comes to sheep, to appear in issue #19.  I'll update when it is out.

I also received an acceptance for 1 poem, the business trip, from
Bathtub Gin to appear in their next issue.  I'll update when the issue is out.

08.28.04

I received word from Jonathan Hayes that his guest-edited
issue of the Muse Apprentice Guild is now up.
I have 3 poems in this issue.

I also received a letter from Cellar Roots
that one poem has been accepted
for their Metropolyesterday Dreams
issue which will be released September 27.
I also have 3 poems still being considered
for their Ekphrasis issue.  I also had
a last poem accepted for their Hell Hath
No Fury issue which will be released in the Spring of 2005.

08.19.04

I just got back from a 5 day camping
vacation to Grand Teton National Park in
Wyoming.  It was beautiful and refreshing.

When I got home I found a rejection from
staplegun press (my final rejection from them as
they are closing shop); a copy of Big Hammer
in which my poem at the sunshine laundromat
appears; and my subscriber's copy of The
Blindman's Rainbow
(which is very good).

I also had 56 emails to sort through, so if you
haven't heard from me for a bit, hold tight.
I'll get back to you ASAP.

08.09.04

I received an acceptance today from Kevin
over at fearless.  I was in an issue of
fearless many years ago.  It's a pretty damn good
zine and it's been around for 14 years now!
I'll update when it comes out, I'll also
be sending more stuff there.

08.02.04

I got an acceptance from Liquid Ohio today
for three poems to appear in a future issue
which will come out within the year.  I'll
update when it is released.  This is my
first acceptance from Liquid Ohio after two
previous tries.  I'm very excited.

08.01.04

The August issue of Antipatico is now up
and I have 5 poems in this issue.  My poems
also kick off the issue.  It's a pretty damn fine
issue which includes pictures of the poets, so we
can finally see what everyone looks like.
Antipatico is a monthly e-zineand is looking for
submissions, so submit your stuff to them now.

07.31.04

I received my contributor's copy of Free Verse
Magazine (May/June 2004) where my poem
hoping for an answer appears on page 18.  Other
poets featured include Michael Kriesel, Robert L.
Penick and Charles P. Ries.  It's a great magazine.

I also received an acceptance from Naked Knuckle
for my poem stuck between remembering
and forgetting
.  i'll keep you posted when
it appears.  Greg Edwards of Naked Knuckle is
running a class joint over there with a quality
magazine and respect for the authors.  I wish
him the best with NK.  Hopefully, he can keep
it going for years to come.

I am sold out of numbered copies of my
book Squeezing Blood From A Mummy.  I still
have 2 lettered copies for sale (for $10 each)
and 2 copies of my book The Magnificent Seven,
also for $10 each.

07.24.04

I have 3 copies of my book with 12 Gauge Press,
The Magnificent Seven, for sale for $10 each; as
well as 2 copies each of numbered and letter editions
of my new book with Mystery Island Publications,
Squeezing Blood From A Mummy.  The two
numbered copies are $5 each and the two lettered
copies are $10 each.  They are first come, first serve.
Email me if you are interested in purchasing
any of these books.  I'll throw in extra goodies
with each order, too!

07.22.04

Good news!  My third book, "Squeezing Blood
From A Mummy", was just released and is
now available for purchase from Mystery
Island Publications
.  I am very excited and
proud of this book.

07.19.04

I received word from the Quarterly Literary
Review Singapore
that two of my poems made
it to the final shortlist, but ultimately were deemed
not good enough for the issue.  My buddy Matt
Smith, however, got one by them.  Congrats,
Matt.  You'll be huge in Singapore, I know it!

I also received word that I have 6 poems in
Issue 8 of the Other Voices International Project
website.  A lot of different types of poets and
writers are featured on this site.  Pretty cool.

I also have a poem up on the new
Zygote In My Coffee issue.

07.15.04

Well, I turn 31 today.  Whoop-de-doo.
Ah hell.  The world revolves relentlessly
towards winter.  Aging sucks.

Some good news.  I heard from Melissa
over at Cellar Roots and three of my
poems have made the first cut for
their anthology Metropolyesterday Dreams.
This is pretty exciting.  They say all three
are worthy of publication, and that now
it just comes down to space concerns.

I also received a quasi-acceptance from Joan
Jobe Smith of Bukowski Review.  She kept
all three poems I sent her, saying she was
unsure whether she liked them, but
didn't dislike them, so she kept them to
decide later which ones will make
the next issue.  Here's hoping for all three.

I've also a poem in the July issue
of Divine Animal.  It's an online journal
of erotic literature.  The poem
is titled lady day.

07.10.04

I received, again, good and bad news on the
same day.  Seems to work this way, huh?
The good news is that I sent a submission of
5 poems to Marissa over at Antipatico, and she
liked all 5 and would like to keep them for the
next issue.  I'll notify when it comes out.

The bad news is that I received a rejection
from staplegun press.  AND, Scott told me
that staplegun press is going to be over with.
He's calling it quits after 7 years.  This next issue
is the last.  I desperately want to be in that last issue,
but it isn't possible.  Ah well.  Good luck, Scott.

07.06.04

I received a nice surprise in the mail today.
A copy of BREVITIES -- A Mini-Mag Of
Minimalist Poems.  And inside this tiny
magazine were two of my poems.  Getting an
acceptance is always great, but this is the first
time an acceptance included the issue the poems
were featured in.  The two poems in the issue
are zen and the egotist manifesto.

I also received my subscription issue to Chiron
Review today.  Great issue with some
great poetry, as always.

07.05.04

I received a pseudo-rejection from Mouseion.  They
said they would like to keep one of my poems about
poetry for a possible collection of poems about poetry
that they might or might not publish.  I suppose it's
just a wait and see now.

I also received the signature sheets for my new book,
Squeezing Blood From A Mummy, the other
day.  Once I get them signed and sent back, and
Brad gets them collated, the book will be ready for
shipping.  I'm looking forward to the release
of this book.

Lastly, but definitely not leastly, I received my
contributor's copy of the inaugural print issue of
the James River Poetry Review.  This issue is
stocked with small press regulars and even has
a poem by ex-poet laureate Robert Pinsky.  I
recommend, if you don't have one, picking up a copy
as soon as you can.  You'll thank me.

06.29.04

I got my copies of the broadside Bill Roberts
will be using in his Bottle of Smoke Press
"six-pack" series.  It's a release of small broadsides,
six at a time (hence the name) that he gives out for
free to friends of the press.  This is the third
"issue" of the series and my poem spark will
be included.  Each broadside is letterpressed and
if the previous two "issues" were any indication,
then #3 will be as pretty as can be.

06.23.04

I received an acceptance from Divine Animal
that my poem lady day will appear in July.
I also received a rejection from Prose Ax.  One of
the poems was close to making the final cut, but
no dice this time.
Also, my poem at the Southe Valley Expo Center
appears in the new issue of Zygote In My Coffee.

06.21.04

I got a nice little surprise in the mail today:
The draft copy of my new book, Squeezing Blood
From A Mummy
, from Mystery Island Publications.
It's a great-looking book with cover art by Mike Soper
of Warm Angel Whiskey.  The final copy should
be out real soon.  Look here in the next few weeks
for more updates.

06.12.04

I received my contributor's copy of The Bukowski
Review
(#3).  It's a much better-looking magazine
than the first two issues, and one that's full of
great poems and stories honoring the man.  I have two
poems featured: why Bukowski? and catching butterflies.
Notable writers include A.D. Winans, Kelly Thomspon,
Mark Wisniewski, Michael Estabrook, E. William Martin,
Jeffrey Weinberg and Gerald Locklin.  It's a great issue
and well worth the $11 they are asking.

I also received issue #17 of Nerve Cowboy.  I'm not
in this issue, but that's precisely why this issue is
very good.  I've noticed that the issues of Nerve Cowboy
that I am not a part of happen to be the better issues
Joseph and Jerry put out.  Coincidence?  Of course!
I hope.

06.11.04

I got word from Brad Hamlin of Mystery Island
Publications
that he is working on the first stages
of my new book, Squeezing Blood From A Mummy.
I'm very excited about this book as I think it
contains some strong poems; and Warm Angel
Whiskey
's Mike Soper designed the cover.
I'll keep you updated on the progress of the
book, and on its release.

06.02.04

I received word from Dave over at My Favorite
Bullet
that he's posting my essay "Poetry Is Uncool"
on his site.  Check it out.  It's under the ESSAYS
section of the front page.  I'll have at least two poems
in the next issue, too.  Maybe more if I can get up
off my lazy ass and submit more stuff to him.

I received my copy of Love and Sadistic Dharma
from Mystery Island Publications.  It's a damn fine
anthology of poems.  I suggest you get on over to
Mystery Island and pick yourself up a copy, if you
haven't already.  Notables include Charles Nevsimal,
A.D. Winans, Bradley Mason Hamlin, Glenn W.
Cooper, Henry Denander, James Quinton, Mike
Soper and Michael Madsen.

And last, but most certainly not least, issue #1
of Hard Luck from Warm Angel Whiskey is
online, and it's another brilliantly-designed,
beautifully-edited issue.  This is actually the
second issue of this magazine, with issue #0 being
the first.  Check it out.

05.27.04

I received an email from Dave over at My Favorite Bullet,
and he has accepted two of my poems for the next issue.
My Favorite Bullet is a great new literary website.
Definitely check it out.

I also received a rejection in the mail from Greg of
Naked Knuckle.  Though, he did say he liked my
style and invited me to submit more.  I gotta tell you
a personal rejection letter like Greg wrote me is so
damn great.  Truly.  It's even as good as an
impersonal form-letter acceptance.  I'll definitely
be submitting more.  Hopefully, I can get
a personal acceptance one day.

05.22.04

I received my contributor's copy of Gypsy today.
I had one poem in the issue.  My buddy Glenn W.
Cooper had a poem featured as well.

I also found out that my buddy Karl Koweski
came in second in the Nerve Cowboy Chapbook
Competition.  Congratulations Karl.  You deserve it!
Watch for his Hemispherical Press chapbook,
"Internet Killed The Mimeo Star", soon.

05.21.04

My copy of the Poetry Jumps Off The Shelf
broadside project arrived.  It is laminated and has
a chain dangling from the corner.  Apparently, this
poem will be attached to 4-8 red bikes, which will
be given out for a deposit.  When the bike is returned
intact, the deposit is returned in full.  Pretty cool.

05.18.04

I tried to log onto Babel Magazine and saw that it
has been removed from the web.  So, I decided to
post my interview with them here.  This interview
originally ran in Babel Magazine #98.  Keep in mind,
also, that some of the answers have changed, like
my most recent books.  I hope you enjoy the
interview.

05.15.04

I have a letter to the editor in our local "alternative"
newsweekly, Salt Lake City Weekly.  The letter concerns
an article written by John Freeman about how poetry
isn't cool.  My letter is halfway down the page.
The letter appears in the printed version as well.

I also received my contributor's copy of Bottle #2
by Bottle of Smoke Press.  It features the work of 25
different poets, each with their own broadside.  It's
absolutely gorgeous and something you don't want to
miss, as it will most likely sell out fast.  Visit Bill over
at Bottle of Smoke and purchase a copy ASAP.

05.12.04

It's been awhile since my last update.  Not much news
to report.  I got a rejection from The Melic Review.  But,
they wished me luck in finding a suitable home for
my pieces.  That was nice.

I started working 10 hour shifts at the old chemistry
laboratory.  It's not too bad, but it leaves me scant
time to get anything else done.

04.26.04

I'll be heading to Santa Barbara, CA for a week
starting tomorrow.  Work related.  I do, though, get
to have some time to myself and plan on being a
goofy tourist.  Fun.

I received an acceptance from Woodrow Hall Editions for
a cool program called Poetry Jumps Off the Shelf.  My poem
early morning bike ride will appear on laminated
bookmarks attached to the handlebars of Budget Bicycle's
Red Bike rentals in Madison, WI.  Pretty cool.
I'm mobile, now.

I received another rejection from Lead magazine.
This time my stuff was too sentimental, and
relationship oriented.  He wants me to submit
more in August.  I'll do just that.  I'll get in Lead,
again, by George, if it's the last thing I do!

04.22.04

Some pretty good news.  I was just added to
Laura Hird's SHOWCASE website.  8 poems are
featured with links to dozens more.  Some influences
and my top 5 things you never knew you could do
in Utah!  Check it out.  Thanks Laura!

04.21.04

No major news right now.  Just wanted to let everyone
know that I submitted 5 poems to the Quarterly
Literary Review Singapore.  I found out about this
wonderful, exotic journal from THE Matt Smith.  I
expect to be rejected on my 4th continent.  For the
record, that's North America, Australia, Europe.  Asia,
Africa and South America, here I come!  I don't think
there are any journals on Antarctica, but if there are
I'll find a way to get rejected by them.

04.16.04

I got an email rejection from a new online magazine
called Edifice Wrecked.  These rejections seem to be
coming in bunches.  But...on a happier note, I got
word from Mike Soper over at Warm Angel Whiskey that
I got a poem past them for the next issue of their journal
Hard Luck!  How ironic that the good news to stop this
bad news slide is from a journal called Hard Luck?

Though, I just looked at the past postings on this
forsaken news section (that I'm not positive anybody
ever reads anyway) and it appears I have placed a few
poems recently in some mags.  So, things are never as
bad as they appear.  That's definitely true when a
pessimist like myself is involved!

04.15.04

I received an acceptance email from Belinda Subraman
for a poem to appear in her newly resurrected magazine,
Gypsy.  I also, the same day, received a rejection email
from FRIGG Magazine for 5 poems I sent them.

04.09.04

I received a rejection from Lead magazine.
Said the ones I sent them seemed very distanced
and detached.  You should see my relationship
with my wife.  Kidding, of course, though my wife
might still agree.  I'll be mailing more out soon.

04.03.04

I just got an email from Mike Soper over at Warm
Angel Whiskey
that he has accepted two poems
for future issues of Typewriter Voodoo and a set of
poems for The Muse.  Warm Angel Whiskey has quickly
accrued some of the best talent out there, and they are
prolific in their projects.  I'm excited to be included.

03.29.04

I received my copies of Chiron Review today.  Issue #74 is
another great issue full of great poetry.  I have two poems
in this issue:
garry winogrand:  women carrying bags,
one wearing hot pants
, 1975
and  he sometimes has trouble
remembering his own name.

I also received copies of the broadside of my poem that
will be featured in Bottle of Smoke Press' Bottle #2.  They look
great.  I'm quite sure the second issue of this great magazine
will be as good, if not better, than the first!

03.27.04

I received an email rejection from Pulsar magazine
today.  Pulsar is out of the UK.  I'm internationally rejected
now.  Editors across the entire globe agree:  justin.barrett's
poetry is bad.  Maybe one of these days I'll make it into
a magazine overseas.  The odds don't look good, though.

03.24.04

I received my contributor's copy of Mystery Island Magazine
from Mystery Island Publications.  I am honored to be in
the inaugural issue.  It's a damn fine issue, too.  19 poems
by 19 poets.  Available for $3.99 directly from MIP.

I also received my contributor's copy of Poesy today.
This is one of the best poetry mags out there.  It's full of
beautiful poetry.  It's available for free with $1.00 postage.

03.19.04

I just got an email from Will Martin of the James
River Poetry Review
.  He has accepted 5 of my poems
for the next issue of JRPR.  I'm sure it'll be a stellar
issue like the others.  He's also working hard on the
print issue of JRPR, that I am excited about.

03.13.04

I received my contributor's copy of the inaugural issue
of LEAD, a new magazine edited by Shane Jones.  It's a
great magazine with some great writers like Karl Koweski,
Nathan Graziano, Anna Wilson and Michael Kriesel, as well
as a bunch of others.  It's a nice slick production and I hope
Shane keep it up.  We could use a great new outlet in
the small press.  Do yourself a favor and purchase a

Good job, Shane!

03.10.04

I received an acceptance from Poesy for one poem
to appear in their March issue #24.  Poesy is one of the
best print mags out there, so this is a great honor.

My buddy Glenn W. Cooper, the best living poet in
Australia (though he'll probably disagree with that statement),
just got an acceptance from
Chiron Review for a full-page
spread.  I am so proud of him.  He richly deserves it!

03.09.04

I received an acceptance of one poem for Free Verse
out of Wisconsin.  This is a very fine magazine with some
great poets featured between its pages.

I also received an acceptance today for 3 poems
to appear in Open Wide #8.  Open Wide has quickly
become one of my favorite online journals.  I'm always
ecstatic when the fine folks at Open Wide deem my
poetry worthy enough to be included.

03.06.04

I received my contributor's copy of Lunatic Chameleon today.
#3 is a heft issue, with 108 pages.  Some great authors in
this issue, too, including Shane Allison, William Taylor Jr.,
Shane Jones and E. Will Martin.  I have two poems,
myself.  Check out their website and pick up a copy.

03.03.04

The new issue of The James River Poetry Review is out.
I have 3 poems in this new issue.  It's another great issue
with more great poetry.  Will is doing a wonderful
job over there at JRPR, and I'm honored to be
included.  Visit the site and start enjoying great poetry!

02.28.04

The new issue of Open Wide (#7) is out.  I have 4 poems featured
in this issue, and they kick off the poetry section.  Editor James
Quinton says in his editorial that this is the best issue yet.
I'm inclined to agree.  I'm sure you'll like this hot issue!

02.26.04

The new issue (Jan/Feb) of small press review arrived today and
on page 5 is a review of my Bottle of Smoke book i was
a third grade genius...
written by Adrian Manning.  It's a great
review and I am proud as hell to have it featured in SPR.
Thank you very much, Adrian!

02.14.04

I received my contributor's copy of aggressivebehavior,
the new anthology by Owen Roberts of Compulsive Press
released in conjunction with Bottle of Smoke Press.  Owen shows
again, with this anthology, why he is the pre-eminent homemade
book maker in the small press.  This anthology is gorgeous, full
of wonderful poems by many great poets with artwork by
Henry Denander and in typical Owen Roberts fashion.
It's purely gorgeous and you can get your own copy at
Bottle of Smoke Press or Compulsive Press.

I also received an acceptance from the Knoxville Writers'
Guild for the poem i was a third grade genius to appear
in their new anthology Migrants and Stowaways.

02.08.04

One of our good friends, Heidi Harmon, passed
away on Thursday, February 5, 2004.  She worked with
my wife and was a generous, wonderful person.  We'll
miss her smile and cheeriness dearly.  I've written a little
something dedicated to her.
You can read it here, if you're interested.

02.07.04

I just received a letter today from Pushcart Press
announcing that Gerry Locklin has nominated the poetry
from my book i was a third grade genius... for the
Pushcart Prize.  I am very excited about this, the Pushcart being
one of the most distinguished of the literary prizes.  The
nomination is such an honor.  Thank you Gerry!  It is
further confirmation that I am maybe doing something right,
and that maybe, just maybe, it is something of significance.

02.05.04

I just got an acceptance from Nerve Cowboy

Getting an acceptance from Nerve still ranks as one of
the greatest thrills.

I also got an acceptance from Brian Fugett of
Zygote in My Coffee.  He has selected one of my poems

Issue #4 of The James River Poetry Review
is now up for your enjoyment.  I have 4 poems in this
issue.  And despite that, it is still a pretty damn good
issue.  Will Martin, the editor of JRPR, has also done a
fabulous job of getting the best of the small press together.
In this issue, as well, is an interview Will conducted with
yours truly.  I think it turned out okay.  Read for yourself.

01.27.04

The new issue of Open Wide (#6) is out.  I don't have any poems
in this issue, but it's a great issue.  Probably because I don't
have any.  Editor James Quinton has done an excellent
job assembling some of the best of the small press in a very
short period of time.  Check it out!

01.10.04

I'm a little late in making this post (sorry Chaz), but I received my
contributor's copy of anthills 3 from Centennial Press and I must say
it is a work of fucking art.  I won't spoil the surprise as to what it is,
but I suggest purchasing a copy for $9.  Lots of great poems and
the layout is just brilliant.  I have two poems in the issue.

Merry Christmas everyone!  I hope you have a
great holidays and a Happy New Year.  I woke up to a beautiful
lawn of white; and it's still snowing.  It's a Festivus miracle.

12.24.03

I received the signature sheets for my new book, The
Magnificent Seven
, from
12 Gauge Press.  They look great.  I
also got a sample copy.  It's brilliant; glossy cover, 24 pages,
7 poems, with front cover art by my buddy Henry Denander.
Watch for it's release in the real near future.

12.23.03

Will Martin accepted 4 poems for the February issue of the James
River Poetry Review
.  The January issue is still up, and I'm still the
featured poet.  The February issue will have Henry Denander, one
of my top 5 favorite poets, as the featured poet.  Check it out.

12.20.03

I received my subscriber's copy of Nerve Cowboy (#16) in
the mail today.  Although I have no poems in this current issue
(but, hopefully the next) there are some great poems
by some of the best small press poets.  If you are not currently
a subscriber, I think you should save up a few pennies and
get a four-issue subscription for $16.  It's well worth it.  Nerve
Cowboy
is one of the best journals around!

12.19.03

The January issue of James River Poetry Review was just made live
and I am the featured poet with 10 poems.  The issue is a great one with
many wonderful poets and some great reviews.  Check it out.

12.13.03

I received my contribution to the Mystery Island Love Potion
Broadside Series in the mail today (I am #5 out of 9).  Bradley Mason Hamlin did a
fucking superb job.  It looks great.  I've signed them, numbered all 100 and
will be shipping them out on Monday.  I also received the other 4 releases of
the series and they look great, too.  I suggest going to Mystery Island Publications
and picking yourself up a copy of each.

12.12.03

I got a nice surprise in the mail today.  A package of small broadsides
from Richard Hansen's 24th Street Irregular Press.  In the package were
copies of 2 of the 3
Poems-for-All broadsides that Richard is doing of my poems.
I received copies of #273 and #274.  They look amazing and I plan on leaving
these little matchbook-sized broadsides all over Salt Lake.  Maybe I can
enlighten a few of these Salt Lake dolts I'm forced to live amongst.
